Simon Fobes: A Revolutionary War Soldier
Explore the often difficult life of a steadfast Connecticut Yankee, Simon Fobes, through his Revolutionary War pension application and 19th-century census records. Study, as he did, the written orders of Commander-in-Chief General George Washington. Wonder, as he must have, if the colonists' struggle for independence could ultimately succeed.
IN THIS WORKSHOP OR PRESENTATION THE PARTICIPANTS WILL:
- Examine the background biography of a typical Revolutionary War citizen soldier
- Consider the military strategy of the Revolutionary War
- Access the outcome of the struggle for independence against the British.
- Engage in a document analysis activity featuring relevant records from the National Archives
- Become familiar with the history, location, holdings, education and volunteer programs of the National Archives and Records Administration
