2005 Symposium
Symposium - October 18, 2005
On October 18, 2005, The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)/Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO) hosted a symposium at the William G. McGowan Theater located in the National Archives Building to mark the 10 year anniversary of Executive Order 12958, as amended. The purpose of the symposium was to offer a retrospective regarding the original vision of this groundbreaking framework along with a review of its impact to date. More importantly, the symposium included an assessment of the remaining challenges to be overcome in order to fully implement the President's direction in this area. Our objective was to provoke discussions that informed and educated members of both the Government and the public, especially with respect to the forthcoming onset of automatic declassification.
